Review: Enzyme Diet

The Enzyme Diet is an altered form of the VLCD (very low calorie diet) that was originally developed by Dr. Charles Jenkins, Chef John Bartilomo, Dr. John Sklare, and Jennifer Ferniza. The concept behind this weight loss strategy is to be able to drop the excess pounds by using special branded meal replacement shakes instead of eating two of the traditional meals throughout the day.

What is Enzyme Diet?

These fortified shakes are supposed to help a dieter to be able to drop up to 25 pounds in a span of 12 weeks.

In order to follow the diet, an individual will undergo three different phases that involve the development of various specific habits within each one of those phases. During that time, the dieter is encouraged to try to stick to the recipes that Chef John Bartilomo has created for this purpose. The idea is that the Enzyme diet will be followed only for 12 weeks and then the dieter will continue to eat based on improved habits that he or she has developed throughout the three phases.

It is important not to continue the use of this diet beyond 12 weeks as it is a VLCD and after that time it could actually be harmful to the individual’s health.

Despite the fact that the Enzyme Diet does require its users to consume branded products, it is actually notably cheaper to follow this strategy than most other types of program of this nature. One box of the branded fortified drinks came with a price tag of $47 at the time that this review was written. When that is broken down into the daily dose, that means that the dieter is actually only paying just over $3 per day, which is more than affordable within this industry.

Dieters have a number of options from which to choose when it comes to the shakes they will be selecting. They can also opt between formulas that are based on whey protein or soy fortified proteins. There are two basic flavors in each of those types.

Many dieters will likely find this strategy to be very convenient as it means that they must simply mix a shake and consume it instead of focusing on preparing an entire meal that will fall within the right nutritional limitations of the diet. That said, it is important to note that it is much more likely that the weight lost on this diet is the result of the very low number of calories consumed every day and not because of the enzymes that are found within these branded shakes.

For many dieters, a very low calorie diet can be risky to their health, so it is a good idea to speak with a doctor before starting this or any other new weight loss program.
