The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss is a book written by Dr. Jason Fung. It is designed to help dieters to better understand their efforts toward weight management in order to improve their chances at successfully reaching their goals and stopping the weight from coming back.
What is The Obesity Code?
The concept of the book is a focus on hormones and their impact on weight. In fact, it specifically states that hormones are the drivers of weight gain and obesity. The author pinpoints insulin and insulin resistance as the most important concepts for losing weight and maintaining a healthy body mass over the long term.
The book then goes about providing information about proper nutrition as well as five steps meant to help people to control their insulin levels, better their health and keep control over their weight. Throughout the pages, Dr. Fung shares his methods for intermittent fasting to smash through insulin resistance and better enjoy a healthy weight throughout the rest of a person’s life.
Dr. Fung’s goal with the book is to inform people about what is happening in their body and why they gain weight. Then he goes about providing steps that can turn that knowledge into an action plan that can be used in real life.
The author went to medical school at the University of Toronto and then went on to complete a nephrology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. He currently works as a Department of Medicine chief at a large Canadian hospital in Toronto and is the founder of the Intensive Dietary Management Clinic. That clinic offers a unique type of type 2 diabetes and obesity treatment strategy.
The book, like many on the weight loss shelves, comes with a range of different types of reviews. There were readers who sang its praises and gave it a five star review (out of 5) and there were those who felt that its directions were not adequately specific or realistic, or who disagreed with the author’s assessment of the true cause of weight gain and obesity. That said, overall the book has been well received and is seen as at least a solid guide to understanding weight gain and weight loss, if not managing weight in a more practical sense as well. At the time this review was written, it had been rated 180 times on Amazon and had a stellar 4.8 star average.
